Prime is credited with being a founding father of Los Angeles stylized graffiti lettering\, a hybrid of Cholo lettering and East Coast style graffiti that is often bold\, aggressive\, and monochromatic. \nPrime is considered one of the most influential artists in the history of Los Angeles public wall writing\, combining “traditional east coast painting techniques with geometric gangster-style blocks\,” according to the curators of the book and exhibition Art in the Streets. His work has been exhibited in many shows including Art in the Streets\, L.A. Louver Gallery and LA Art Show. \nPhoto by Monica Orozco Photography \n\nAbout Man One \nGrowing up in Los Angeles\, Man One developed his artistic skills as a graffiti artist on the streets of LA. He honed his talents as a fine artist and understanding of art history at Loyola Marymount University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. In 2002\, Man One founded Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles to legitimize graffiti art as a valuable and collectible art form and give graffiti artists a professional venue and forum in which to showcase their work. \nMan One’s art comprises his trademark bold\, colorful art strokes and has been featured in over a dozen solo shows\, and countless group exhibitions. Scott “Sourdough” Power is an arts media entrepreneur and producer based in Los Angeles. DESCRIPTION:Free\nOn Friday\, November 18th from 6:00 to 8:00PM\, please join Arcana: Books on the Arts for a double book signing of Ari Marcopoulos: Not Yet and Rome – Malibu. \nNewly published by Rizzoli\, Not Yet is the definitive publication on the work of Ari Marcopoulos. For nearly four decades this renowned photographer whose explicit and startling visual intimacy bridging art and street photography has broken conventions with his candid and raw style. His images documenting subcultures such as skateboarding\, snowboarding\, and hip-hop; his tendencies to photograph stark landscapes\, portraits of artists\, and celebrities; and his extremely quiet and intimate pictures of his family and friends have all been hugely influential in helping to establish the visual rawness of youth culture\, as well as the ephemeral aesthetic of contemporary photography. Ari Marcopoulos: Not Yet is an unprecedented journey through the artist’s celebrated career including both iconic and never-before-published photographs from the 1980s to now. Each chapter is edited by a different celebrated artist or family member close to Marcopoulos\, and it is through these personal reflections on the artist’s work that this monograph takes on a deeper level of intimacy\, drawing a more complete portrait of his oeuvre. \nRome – Malibu from Amsterdam’s Roma Publications presents photographs taken this year by Ari Marcopoulos in Rome and Malibu\, and features a textual contribution by Kara Walker: “Rome.
