DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, April 14th\, 6:30-8:30 pm\, for a reception\, lecture\, and discussion with Alice Kimm and John Friedman\, JFAK\nArchitecture\, Not Architecture\nIn collaboration with the Helms Bakery District and the Cal Poly SLO LA Metro Program in Architecture and Urban Design \nHELMS DESIGN CENTER        \n8745 Washington Blvd.\, Culver City\, CA 90232 \nFree Parking is available at the corner of Helms Ave. and Venice Blvd. \nLecture is Free and Open to the Public \nRSVP\n\nAlice Kimm and John Friedman \nJohn Friedman Alice Kimm Architects (JFAK) was founded in 1996 and is based in Boyle Heights. \nWith the belief that architecture has the power to uplift people’s lives\, John and Alice have spent the past two and a half decades creating buildings and environments that celebrate identity and joyful places that inspire. The firm’s work spans residential\, commercial and creative offices\, public spaces\, K-12 and higher education\, athletics and recreation\, and science / innovation centers. JFAK recently commenced work on two public middle/high school projects focused on providing equal access to cutting-edge education – the Iovine and Young Center in Leimert Park\, and the Russell Westbrook Why Not? Academy Middle and High Schools in South Gate. \nIn 2020 with like-minded collaborators\, John and Alice founded Open Source Homelessness Initiative (OSHI)\, a nonprofit that mines open data to accelerate innovations to eradicate homelessness. OSHI was recently named a winner of Metropolis’s Responsible Disruptors awards program. \nJFAK’s first book will be published by Actar. It will highlight a range of the firm’s projects along with the inspirations and passions that shaped them. John and Alice were named Emerging Voices by The Architectural League of New York and are elected Fellows of the American Institute of Architects.
