SUMMARY:Los Angeles Design Festival 2025
DESCRIPTION:Helms Design District is proud to be the Westside anchor for the 2025 Los Angeles Design Festival: Design Futurism\, taking place June 26-29 at locations across the city.\n\nDesign Futurism isn’t about predicting the future—it’s about creating it. \nWhen envisioning the future\, design is inherently a part of our collective imagination: a tool for reimagining how we connect\, create\, and challenge existing narratives. This concept expands beyond the exploration of technological spectacle. Design Futurism is a solution-oriented exploration of human potential. In 2025\, LADF invites you to explore Design Futurism through various lenses of our collective human experiences. \nDesign informs every aspect of our present lives\, guiding us towards and through thoughtful experiences. The impact of forward thinking design is tangible in the smallest portions of our everyday practices through global experiences and products. \nWe’re gathering the misfits\, the dreamers\, and the radical thinkers who recognize design as a key to unlock the possibilities of an intentional future. Design Futurism is more than a concept; it’s a multidisciplinary call to action to explore connections between past\, present and the creation of an optimistic future. We’re inviting the LA community to\, to show up curious\, to experiment\, and to make connections between what is and what could be. \nJoin us to create a future where creativity meets purpose\, and design is the key to unlocking new possibilities. \n\nClick below for a full schedule of events and activities at Helms! \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n HELMS EVENT SCHEDULE\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n  \nVisit the LA Design Festival site for a list of events at all locations citywide. \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n LA DESIGN FESTIVAL SITE

SUMMARY:Seeding the City: A Nature-Inspired Event @Helms
DESCRIPTION:Free\nSaturday | April 23\, 2022\n11:00 AM to 5:00 PM\nCampus-Wide Event \nThe Southland was once a garden of Eden. Now\, as Los Angeles continues to build up its cityscape\, connection to the land is out of reach for many. This rupture was underscored by the pandemic\, when access to clean air\, open space\, plants and pets became an essential tonic. \nBut talented and creative designers are finding ways to green the City in ways beyond the traditional backyard\, injecting trees onto rooftops\, flowers under transit lines and plants into defunct concrete pools. They are reclaiming the wild and bringing back long-vanished birds and bees. Artists and writers are creating works reflecting on new ways of coexistence with all species. \nSeeding The City celebrates the 21st century garden in Los Angeles with a daylong program of talks\, tours\, and popups\, featuring some of LA’s leading landscape designers and thinkers. \nSee a full schedule of events here: https://helmsdesigndistrict.com/seeding-the-city/ \nThank you to our media sponsor\, KCRW.

These same ropes have been stretched around boulders in a remote area of Yucca Valley and Stephanie has her eye on other locations — a fenced off-drainage ditch alongside the 10 freeway and a dry stream bed near Ojai. The ropes are making a quick stop at Helms Bakery’s Washington Corridor Gallery during Art Walk 2021.\nWashington Corridor Gallery\, 8723 Washington Blvd. Culver City\, CA \n\n \nAmazonia Delivered \nArtist Yuliya Sigalova’s Amazonia Delivered addresses the problem of deforestation and the excessive production of paper products used to maintain our lifestyles. Excess and careless waste\, exacerbated by skyrocketing product delivery during the pandemic\, contribute to the strain on our resources and animals. A structure built with Amazon boxes\, evoking an image of a tall rainforest tree stump\, with bark and roots made of void fill paper and other packing materials\, will include endangered species of animals and plants of the Amazon forest represented as cardboard and paper sculptures\, suggesting their metamorphosis into cardboard and an expression of the fragility of beauty and life traded for convenience.\nHelms Design Center\, 8745 Washington Blvd. Suite A\, Culver City\, CA \n\n \nArt + LA Family Housing \nPlease join Room & Board in support of LA Family Housing (LAFH) in an effort to help our homeless neighbors obtain permanent housing and a place to call home. When you purchase an artwork by the featured artist – this month is Trine Churchill – a 50% donation will be made on your behalf to continue the critical and life-saving services LAFH provides.\nRoom & Board\, 3231 Helms Avenue\, Los Angeles\, CA 90034 \n\n \nTricksters and Transformations \nTricksters & Transformation\, an exhibition in partnership with Textile Arts | Los Angeles\, is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate textiles and our community. Textiles have a universally demonstrated capacity for holding meaning\, establishing connections\, and creating healing. We’re delighted to invite you to share the work with us before the exhibit closes on Sunday\, October 10th. The exhibit runs concurrently with Artist in Residence Carmen Mardonéz.\nHelms Design Center\, 8745 Washington Blvd. Suite E\, Culver City \n\n \nPhotographic Alchemy \nPlease join us for ALCHEMY the first public exhibition of works from Los Angeles-based photographer\, Cynthia Alexandra. The presentation is informed by a definition of “Divine Alchemy” — “The art of transmutation\, the application of spiritual consciousness to physical form\, so profound that an entirely new form evolves. It is an irreversible change. A transformation that requires patience\, courage and a belief in the power of spirit above all else.” The exhibition features portraits of women who have transmuted challenges in their personal journey to empower others; they stand at various points of their own personal evolutions; some fully-formed\, others still in process\, but all firmly on the precipice of their next phase of embodiment.\nHelms Design Center\, 8745 Washington Blvd.\, Culver City

SUMMARY:Culver City ArtWalk 2017 Comes to the District on October 7th!
DESCRIPTION:Free\nAs we transition from summer to autumn\, the art scene around town also shifts seasons with new gallery openings\, Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA\, and over in our little bit of the city\, CULVER CITY ARTWALK – a self-guided walking tour and celebration of all things creative in our community. \nOn Saturday\, October 7th from 2 to 6pm\, we are pleased to welcome artists and makers who will activate the Helms Bakery campus and engage our community in a creative dialogue. Begin your tour at Helms Avenue heading east along Washington Boulevard for an arts and entertainment adventure. A full calendar of events includes music\, art installations\, performances\, gallery openings\, dance\, a doggie parade and much more! Check out the Culver City Arts District website and Facebook page for complete details. \nHere are the not-to-miss happenings at Helms Bakery\, inside the Helms Design Center and along Helms Walk\, our pedestrian plaza on Helms Avenue. \n\nART GALLERY INSTALLATION: 2 to 6 pm\nPLACE \nNew Works by Renée Amitai\, Kim Abeles\, Rachel X Hobreigh\, and Debra Dobkin\nPLACE refers simultaneously to a location and the action for going there. In this way\, we can remember the places of our past\, and imagine others in a sense of longing. The four artists in the exhibition make use of painting\, drawing\, photography\, printmaking\, and sculpture to define the ethereal dream that is PLACE. Click here for more information. \nHelms Design Center 8745 Washington Boulevard\, Culver City \n\nINSTALLATION + PERFORMANCE: 2 to 6 pm\nSTRANDS\, featuring artists Amabelle Aguiluz\, Joy Wu and Si Jie Loo \nStrands draws from three artists’ unique mediums and perspective to demonstrate a common contemplation of the past and future\, traditions and modernity\, eastern and western art practices\, and the struggle to juggle multiple identities such as women and artists (to name just two) ALL at once within one given time and space. \nIn addition to the open gallery\, we will host two 15-minute performances at 3 pm and 4 pm. The performance piece is a visualization and reenactment of how  ‘strands’ is perceived by three female Asian artists. These artists use traditional tools to give voice to contemporary issues\, using lines from textile\, brush strokes and instruments to connect us\, bind us\, and hopefully de-tangle all the knots of illusions that are detracting us from the ‘truth’. Click here for more information. \nHelms Design Center 8745 Washington Boulevard\, Culver City \n\nTEXTILE ARTS LA POPUP COLLECTIVE: 2 TO 6 PM\n \nWe are excited to partner with Textile Arts LA to bring you a one-day-only popup collective of artists and makers whose work explores texture\, form\, sculpture\, materials and purpose. Williams’ work finds space in the natural\, exposing outstanding and devastating stages of human evolution. “To provoke thought\, a question works better than answers.  I enjoy to start a story I resolve in different ways depending on my mood\,” says Williams.  With imagery ranging from stark silhouettes to lush landscapes and human forms staged in undetermined acts of hope\, his pairing of words and imagery suggest deeper meaning. A poignant visualization of the inherent human struggle both ancient and contemporary. Click here for more information. \n8675 Washington Boulevard\, Culver City \n\nFOOD & BEVERAGE: All Day\nHelms Bakery is home to acclaimed restaurants including Father’s Office\, La Dijonaise Cafe\, Lukshon\, the Helms Bakery treat truck and the Let’s Be Frank hot dog truck.
