For one summer afternoon, Helms Design District took on a distinctly Italian rhythm.
Ferragosto began with friends and families arriving on Helms Avenue and quickly unfolded into a day of music, food, art, and discovery. Jon Sosin & Friends kicked things off with live music, DJ Benofficial kept the energy going into the evening, and a colorful parade of Vespas brought plenty of Italian style, and more than a few cameras, to the streets.
Food, naturally, was at the heart of the day. Pasta Sisters gathered a crowd around the pasta table for a live tortellini demonstration, while the Italian Marketplace offered everything from gelato and espresso to Sicilian pistachio specialties, salumi, olive oil, and plenty of tastes along the way, while other Helms businesses found their own ways to get into the spirit.
There was just as much to discover beyond the table. Families made pasta jewelry and joined baby dance-alongs with Fondazione Italia, played on IKEA’s Family Fun Lawn, spun the Ferragosto Prize Wheel, posed for Italian-inspired photos, explored art exhibitions and installations, and caught scenes from Roman Holiday inside Scandinavian Designs.
What we loved most, however, were the moments in between; the conversations over espresso, kids dancing in the street, friends lingering over lunch, people discovering a new artist or maker, and familiar faces introducing Helms to someone new.
A very special thank you goes to the Pasta Sisters team, whose partnership, guidance, and generosity were instrumental in bringing Ferragosto to Helms for the first time. They helped us understand the traditions behind the celebration and, more importantly, helped us capture its true spirit: gathering together and enjoying the pleasures of a summer day.
Thank you as well to the many artists, musicians, makers, businesses, cultural organizations, community partners, and volunteers who contributed their talents and ideas to the day, and to all of you who came out to experience it with us.
Here’s a sneak peek of a few of our favorite moments from Ferragosto at Helms. We’ll have a full gallery of photos soon.
See you on August 15, 2027 for the 2nd Ferragosto at Helms!
