    On Saturday December 11th, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, the SoCalNOMA Senior Practitioners Committee will host a conversation with Betty Williams (wife of NOMA founding member Harold Williams) and past NOMA National President, Drake Dillard on the NOMA legacy and the contributions of minority architects to the Southern California community.

    This is the last week to view SoCalNOMA's exhibition “Not Now, But Right Now”.

    “Not Now, But Right Now” is an exhibition of recent projects by members of the Southern California Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (SoCalNOMA). SoCalNOMA’s mission is to increase the diversity, equity, and inclusion of the architecture profession, to support our members to amplify their voices and expand their connections to the Southern California community at large, and to increase the pipeline of diverse architects entering the profession in the future.

    Join us for the closing event of Walls of Water, with participating artist and curator Rachel X Hobreigh. Rachel gathered 70 artist friends who contributed their work and talent to the second annual wall collaboration for Helms Bakery’s Washington Corridor Gallery. Artists include Kim Abeles, Debra Dobkin, Ken Marchionno, Dennis Mukai, Diana Wong and many other SLMM Artists. Artist Renée Amitai shares her vision of water in a collection of larger paintings and etchings included in this exhibition.

    deCoding Asian Urbanism is a timely book and exhibition about the unprecedented, meteoric growth of Asian cities, and the “urban acupuncture” projects that are making them more liveable. This Thursday, March 3, Helms invites you for a reception and conversation about the issues raised by DAU. What happens to cultural identity in the face of such extreme change and what can designers do to recreate a sense of place? Does the extreme density of Asian cities represent the future for all growing cities?

    Join us for an evening of “The Chance to Paint Each Other Gold” a multi-dimensional presentation of Stu Paul’s documentary “Ink and Linda”, featuring Inksap and Linda Lack followed by a Q&A. Enter the reception showroom where you can view an installation of the shared street art and subsequent wall art created by Inksap, plus a live and intimate demonstration revealing Inksap and Lack’s artistic process.

    Please join Room & Board in support of LA Family Housing (LAFH) in an effort to help our homeless neighbors obtain permanent housing and a place to call home. When you purchase an artwork by the featured artist – this month is Hung Viet Nguyen  - a 50% donation will be made on your behalf to continue the critical and life-saving services LAFH provides. Hung's art may be found inside the Room & Board showroom through the month of April.

  • In Harmony with Nature: The Architectural Work of James Hubbell

    James Hubbell is a painter, sculptor and architectural designer who has spent 60 years designing and making buildings, artifacts and fine artworks that reflect a deep passion for the ocean and for earth’s gifts. From Ilan Lael, his self-made home, workshops and foundation in Julian near San Diego, Hubbell has created schools in concert with the community in Tijuana, an organic chapel at Sea Ranch and parks that span the cultures of the Pacific Rim. Now Angelenos can see his architectural work shown for the first time in L.A. at an exhibition opening on Earth Day at Helms Bakery District in Culver City.
