Sidewalk Stories: A Place to Get Lost (and Found)

Sidewalk Stories: A Place to Get Lost (and Found)

There’s a quiet kind of magic in wandering through Arcana: Books on the Arts, a space where shelves are filled with possibility, and every book feels like a doorway. From rare, out-of-print gems to contemporary monographs on art, design, film, and fashion, Arcana is where artists, photographers, collectors, and creatives of all kinds come to browse, reflect, and find inspiration.

Located in the heart of Helms Design District, Arcana has been a beloved destination in Culver City, drawing in everyone from serious scholars to weekend wanderers. It’s the kind of place where a quick visit turns into an afternoon, where one book leads to ten more, and where inspiration seems to live in the air.

But Arcana is just one chapter in the story.

Because at Helms, creativity isn’t confined to the page. It’s baked into the food, woven into the furnishings, and poured by the pint. From our world-class design showrooms to independent restaurants, craft brews, and community events, Helms is a place where creativity shows up in every corner.

And what better time to explore it all than during the upcoming Art Walk Festival on October 18th? It’s the perfect opportunity to stroll through Arcana’s stacks, take in an art exhibition, pop into the Helms Design Center to watch a film about architecture & design, and feel the full energy of a district built for creative inspiration.

A Creative District with Room to Roam

Helms is a place for book lovers, design seekers, food explorers, and anyone looking to be inspired. Whether you come for a title you’ve been chasing for years or stumble upon something new, there’s always more to discover once you’re here. Start with the books. Stay for the everything.

Every Visit Tells a New Story

At Helms Design District, creativity isn’t just seen—it’s felt. In the quiet corners of Arcana, the expressive lines of Nancy Nimoy’s art, and the conversations sparked at every turn, there’s a rhythm that draws you in and invites you to stay awhile.

Sidewalk Stories celebrates these everyday moments of connection, between people, between art and place, between past and possibility. Join us as we continue to share the stories that make Helms a living, breathing canvas for creativity in all its forms.

Meet Nancy Nimoy

We couldn’t have asked for a better creative partner for this campaign. Nancy Nimoy has been part of the Helms Design District community for more years than we can count, an integral thread in the creative fabric of our campus.

Known for her keen eye, vibrant color palette, and unmistakable sense of humor, Nancy has a unique ability to capture the spirit of people and places with warmth and wit. Her work spans everything from book jackets to theater posters to fashion campaigns, and now, it’s bringing the story of Helms to life through illustration.

Whether she’s painting on canvas or sketching on an iPad, Nancy brings a sense of discovery to every project she touches. Through this series, her distinct artistic style will spotlight the eclectic mix of makers, proprietors, and experiences that define Helms.
